Celebrating 33 years of existence!

33 years is not aeons ago. But in the history of Delhi, with such a diversified cultural and social demography, the last 33 years have witnessed many changes. Some of these have altered our lives greatly.

Purbachal was formed 33 years ago by some Bengalis living in Patparganj area of East Delhi. Life then was simpler, the means of entertainment was limited. Internet was not so omnipresent in our lives. There were no e-mails, no Facebook, no Whatsapp and no Twitter(X). There were no mobile phones and landlines had their own limitations. Remember, making an STD call to a relative living in a different city was quite a task!

There were less number of vehicles on the roads. Very few buses plied on NH-24. There was no metro. The roads of Patparganj were dusty, and mostly broken.

Many of the societies were under construction!

Its been 33 years since then. Today, Patparganj (now with a fancier name I. P. Extension) has developed a lot. It is probably one of the best residential areas in Delhi and NCR. Public transport is good, there are a fair number of good schools, markets and banks.

Delhi Metro will also now ply through this area.

As we celebrate another year of fun and frolic in Durga Puja, we do remember the various changes that have occurred in the past 33 years. These changes have greatly altered the lifestyle of common Delhites. However, with the same zeal and enthusiasm we keep celebrating Ma’s arrival in this mortal world and will do so in future.
